Monterey County Coastkeeper Established

For the past 5 yeas SLO Coastkeeper has been keeping an eye on agency and permit issues from the Santa Ynez River in Santa Barbara County to Santa Cruz. Thankfully some help has arrived! For the past 6 months SLO Coastkeeper has been in discussions with The Otter Project Executive Director, Steve Shimek to establish a separate Coastkeeper program in Monterey. On March 6, our efforts culminated in approval of the new program by the Waterkeeper Alliance Board of Directors! In addition the WKA Board approved 2 new programs in China.I look forward to working with Steve as SLO Coastkeeper and Monterey Coastkeeper continue discussions regarding projects and issues of mutual interest across both counties. The San Luis Obispo Coastkeeper program is part of the international Waterkeeper Alliance. This connection expands the impact of your support of SLO Coastkeeper by helping to spread Waterkeeper Influence to protect the environment throughout our region and the world!

The three new programs approved by the Waterkeeper Alliance Board of Directors recently are: Monterey Coastkeeper; Beijing North Canal Waterkeeper; Middle Han Waterkeeper.
